Questions to ask your insurer

If you plan to use out-of-network benefits, these questions help avoid surprises:

• Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits, and what is my deductible?
• What percentage of the allowed amount is reimbursed for a psychiatric evaluation and for follow-up visits?
• Are telehealth visits covered the same way as office visits?
• Is pre-authorization needed for a psychiatric evaluation?
• What documentation do I need to submit a claim, and where do I send it?

Prescription costs

Medication costs depend on your pharmacy plan and on whether a generic is available. If cost is a concern, raise it at your visit; there is often more than one reasonable option.
